AT&T to Deploy More Than 15,000 Alternative-Fuel Vehicles

Clean EnergyThrough an initiative that highlights the growing demand for cleaner domestic vehicles, AT&T today announced plans to invest up to $565 million as part of a long-term strategy to deploy more than 15,000 alternative-fuel vehicles over the next 10 years. AT&T expects to spend an estimated $350 million to purchase about 8,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles and approximately $215 million to begin replacing its passenger cars with alternative-fuel models.

U.S. Gas Fields Go From Bust to Boom

Clean EnergyCADDO PARISH, La. — A massive natural-gas discovery here in northern Louisiana heralds a big shift in the nation’s energy landscape. After an era of declining production, the U.S. is now swimming in natural gas.
Even conservative estimates suggest the Louisiana discovery — known as the Haynesville Shale, for the dense rock formation that contains the gas — could hold some 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That’s the equivalent of 33 billion barrels of oil, or 18 years’ worth of current U.S. oil production. Some industry executives think the field could be several times that size.

U.S. Postal Service to Receive Alternative Fuel Vehicles Agency to Participate in Federal Fleet Upgrade Strategy

The U.S. Postal Service will conduct a one-for-one replacement of 6,500 vehicles with 1,000 E-85 ethanol-capable and 900 gasoline/electric hybrid vehicles to its delivery fleet, part of a vehicle purchase by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

Honda May Benefit From Proposed U.S. Tax-Credit Boost

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada yesterday offered legislation to boost tax incentives to as much as $12,500 for natural gas passenger vehicles, and extend them for a decade. Commercial trucks using CNG would receive as much as $64,000, according to a summary of the legislation.
